November 2016: PMN Social Justice Song Showcase

In November 2016, People’s Music Network is hosting our Third Annual “PMN Social Justice Song Showcase” at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference, taking place November 10-13, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stamford, CT. In past years, this event was known as “The People’s Music Network Song of the Month Showcase”.

We want to feature the best songs being written today in support of a just and peaceful world. Songs will be judged based on 1) their political effectiveness 2) musical and lyrical craft and 3) relevance to struggles for freedom and justice today.

  • The song must have been written on or after November 2011 (within the last 5 years)
  • The song must be an original song or a song co-written by the person submitting it. The song may be a parody.
  • Applicants for the November 2016 PMN Social Justice Song Showcase must be registered for the 2016 NERFA Conference.

The songwriter whose song is chosen for the PMN Social Justice Songs Showcase in November 2016 will receive a token prize of $100. The 10 qualifying songs will be widely publicized.

The judging for these songs will take place in person at the PMN Song of the Month Showcase Room at NERFA on the evening of Friday, November 11, from 12:00am to 1:00am. This showcase will include the top 10 songs selected for November 2016 —  each done by a different performer.

All performers in the PMN Social Justice Song Showcase at NERFA, are strongly encouraged to join PMN as members and/or get up to date on their annual membership dues.

Submissions are closed. The final 10 songs for this showcase will be announced October 20, 2016.
